UAE Support towards SDGs and its Sectors of Assistance
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continued its support for SDG 8, with disbursements
reaching AED 96.6 million (USD 26.3 million). Nearly 80% of this support came from two prominent
donors: the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the Khalifa Fund for Enterprise
Development (KFED).
The UAE’s support in 2022 to the eighth global goal was strategically distributed across various
countries, including seven Least Developed Countries (LDCs), to stimulate economic growth
and employment opportunities. These nations received 57% of the UAE’s 2022 disbursements
dedicated to advancing SDG 8.
Senegal stood out as the top beneficiary of the UAE’s support towards SDG 8 in 2022, receiving
grants totaling AED 28.0 million (USD 7.6 million). These funds were predominantly invested in a
state-of-the-art Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Dakar. The center, with an impressive
capital of AED 73.6 million (USD 20.0 million), is designed to stimulate a wide range of programs
and initiatives aimed at nurturing innovation and fostering small and medium-sized enterprises
(SME) growth, not just in Senegal, but across the broader West African region.
Bilateral assistance was extended to Mauritania and Tanzania, with each receiving substantial
support for SMEs development. Mauritania received AED 18.4 million (USD 5.0 million), while
Tanzania was allocated AED 7.0 million (USD 1.9 million).
