Women's Day in the United Arab Emirates was created to celebrate the achievements of Emirati women of the past and to inspire future generations. Sheikha Shamma added: "Celebrating Emirati Women's Day here in Rome and sharing it with my Italian friends is a great moment and a sign of the positive direction that women's empowerment is taking all over the world." The representative of the Royal House of Emirates pointed out that "today we are witnessing a real fusion of cultures". "This celebration is a wonderful example of what we are trying to achieve through the Year of Tolerance and highlights exactly what it means to be an Emirati woman".
