Attestation Requirements

In order to attest your document by the UAE Embassy in London, it must be legalised first by its respective foreign office.

1. Documents issued in the UK must be attested by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
The FCDO will only accept the original documents which have been signed by The UK Registrars ex (Company, Birth, Death and
Marriage certificates, but other documents should be first authenticated by a solicitor or notarised by a notary public in the UK).

2. Documents issued in Ireland must be legalised by the Irish foreign office.
3. Documents issued in Iceland must be legalised by the Icelandic foreign office.
4. Documents issued in any of the British Overseas Territories will require an apostille from the Government of the Territory concerned prior to submission for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). 
British Overseas Territories :(Anguilla – Montserrat – Bermuda - Cayman Islands - Pitcairn Island - British Antarctic Territory - St Helena-British Indian Ocean Territory - St Helena dependencies (Ascension Island, Tristan da Cunha) - British Virgin Islands - South Georgia and the South Islands - Falkland Islands - Turks and Caicos Islands – Gibraltar).
5. Document issued in any of the British Crown Dependencies must be attested by its own Foreign Office only. British Crown Dependencies: (Jersey - Guernsey - Isle of Man).
6. NON UK, Irish or Icelandic Document(s) must be legalised by our UAE Consulate in its relevant Country.

Non UK, Irish or Icelandic issued Document(s) can be legalised at the discretion of the adviser.
In order for the document(s) to be considered, they must be legalised in the following order:

  • Legalised from its relevant country Embassy in London.
  • Legalised from a UK Notary or Solicitor.
  • Legalised by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

Notes:

The steps above are not applied for legalising non UK, Irish or Icelandic academic certificates. (The UAE Embassy in London will not
legalise non UK, Irish or Icelandic academic certificates).
The FCDO May not accept a Non UK Document(s), so if you are willing to start the process it is under your responsibility.

7. Document issued in UAE must be attested from the ministry of foreign affairs in the UAE first. The document can then be attested
by the UAE Embassy in London, which enables it to be used in the UK.

Notes:

  • Power of attorney and similar legal documents should be original and signed in the presence of a UK notary public prior to submission
    to the foreign office.
  • UK, Irish or Icelandic academic qualification must be attested (stamped) by the foreign office and it will be accepted weather it's a
    photocopy or original.
  • The power of attorney which has got any commercial content will be treated as a commercial POA.
  • Documents apostilled in a bundle are not accepted. They should be certified or legalised separately.
  • Memorandum and articles of association must be separately attested.

Submission and collection method:

Documents cannot be submitted or collected in person, they will be accepted only by post, please read the following instructions

1. The online payment receipt must be enclosed along with your document(s), please use the online payment system to pay for your
documents, banker's draft and postal orders are not accepted.( please check the online payment method section).
2. Covering letter must be enclosed with your document(s), please write your contact details including your email and mobile number.
3. For documents return, please a self-addressed envelope must be attached. (Registered or recorded stamp is required)
4. Documents sent by post take up to 5 working days to process.
5. A photocopy front and back of each document must be attached.
6. Documents cannot be collected by a private courier before receiving confirmation email for collection. (Airway Bill might be needed).
7. Incomplete applications will be kept pending until it is resolved. (Please do not arrange any courier before receiving our confirmation
email)

Notes:

  • If you are willing to receive your document by post/Courier, it is under your responsibility and you have to arrange the mail
    service/Courier by yourself. (Registered or recorded stamp is required/ Airway Bill might be needed).
  • Document(s) sent by post can only be traced after 5 working days from the date of receiving.
  • Any document(s) left for more than 6 months will be discarded without prior notice.
  • Proof of identity is not required for submitting documents.

Fees and payment method:

You can only pay online for the attestation service by visiting the attestation section of the MOFA website.

  • You need to create an account to start the using the service.
  • After logged in and while you are filling the legalisation form. Please note the following:
  • The location required for Attestation must be “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”
  • Select your attestation type whether “Certificate” for individual documents or “Commercial” for company. Invoices are accepted only
    by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce
  • Please print the payment confirmation receipt, and send it with your document(s).

Notes:

  • (*)Transaction fees will be applied, 3 dirham + 2% per transaction.
  • The local currency will vary depending on international exchange rate.
  • In case of wrong payment, refunds are only issued within 90 days of payment and a bank statement must be provided.
  • Cash, Company or personal cheques, banker’s draft and postal orders, are not accepted.
  • If the enclosed amount is insufficient, the documents will be kept pending until the correct amount is received.
