On the 21st of October 2019, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to Romania held a reception at the Marriott Hotel in the capital Bucharest, on the occasion of the one year countdown to the launch of Expo 2020 Dubai, with the participation of members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Romania, high officials and Romanian representatives of the public and private sector, having as guest of honor Mr. Mihail Dediu, the General Commissioner for the Romanian Section of Expo 2020 Dubai. On this occasion, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Bin Saeed Al Matrooshi, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Romania, delivered a welcome speech in which he outlined the important role of Expo 2020, as it will contain events from all over the world, with the participation of more than 200 countries and with the presence of millions of visitors, in an atmosphere of celebration, cooperation and optimism for a brighter future. His Excellency added that, during the whole six months of Expo 2020, the United Arab Emirates will be the focus of attention of the world. The ambassador also addressed in his speech the significance of the year 2019 which marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and Romania, noting the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries and the two peoples, and the remarkable development registered in various fields, including economy, culture and trade. During the reception, the ambassador met with heads of diplomatic missions in Bucharest and high ranking Romanian officials, as well as with the members of the architecture team whose project won the competition to represent the National Pavilion of Romania at Expo 2020 Dubai. The event was therefore an opportunity for a fruitful dialogue on the presentation of Expo Dubai 2020.
