
The meeting took place in Durban, South Africa, as part of the ongoing expansion of BRICS membership, and marked a significant occasion following the accession of the UAE, alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the Republic of Argentina, as new members to the group in January 2024.
The meeting discussed the structure of cooperation in the BRICS group, the process of integrating new members into the group, and how to frame work and efforts after increasing the number of member states from five to 11.
His Excellency Al Hajri stressed the UAE’s commitment to working closely with the member states of the group and its desire to contribute to its effective development.
On the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the BRICS Sherpas, His Excellency held bilateral meetings with the Sherpas of the Republic of India, the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Africa. During the meetings, bilateral relationships were discussed, in addition to discussing job opportunities and joint cooperation within the framework of BRICS.
