His Excellency Khalifa Bin Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, led the UAE delegation to the international conference on Syria, held in Paris, France.

The event was attended by His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, along with the  Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the GCC Secretary-General.
The conference also saw the participation of the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, ministers from Syria’s neighboring countries, representatives from the G7, as well as officials from the United Nations, the European Union, and the Arab League.

Building on discussions from the Aqaba Conference (14th December 2024) and the Riyadh Conference (12th January 2025), the aim of the Paris conference was to address the ongoing situation in Syria, coordinate efforts for stability, and support the political process toward a successful transition that aligns with the aspirations of the Syrian people and the international community. The conference sought to uphold international resolutions on legitimacy.

Furthermore, the ministers discussed the challenges facing Syria’s new authorities and explored potential avenues of support to overcome these issues, fostering a stable Syria where all societal groups can coexist peacefully, free from extremism, violence, and terrorism, and work in harmony with regional and international partners.

During his speech at the conference, H.E. Al Marar reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting Syria’s independence and sovereignty over all its territories, as well as the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability, development, and prosperity. His Excellency stressed the importance of establishing a united, stable, and secure Syria, without terrorism, extremism, and exclusion.

His Excellency also expressed the UAE’s hopes for the success of Syria’s transitional government in achieving peace and stability, emphasizing that such success would have a positive impact on the wider region, as Syria’s security and stability are key to regional security.

His Excellency underscored the importance of combatting extremism, terrorism, violence, and hatred, which he identified as the greatest threats to regional stability and the well-being of its people.

The UAE called on the international community to intensify efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and support them in achieving a successful transition and an inclusive political process that fulfills their aspirations for security, development, and a dignified life.

The UAE’s statement emphasized the country’s key role in advancing peace and stability in the region, engaging with regional and international partners to ensure the success of these efforts for the benefit of all nations and peoples in the region.

At the conclusion of the conference, a joint statement was issued reflecting the consensus among participants on addressing the situation in Syria and supporting both the Syrian people and the country’s transitional authorities.
